Keuka College President Amy Storey has announced that Dr. Heather Maldonado has been appointed as the College’s provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, effective immediately.
Dr. Maldonado was appointed to lead the office on an interim basis in April 2024. Prior to that, she served as vice president for Student Development after joining the College in June 2021.
“I have been impressed by the work occurring in the provost’s office under Heather’s leadership,” said President Storey. “Her expertise, skill, and attention to detail have been invaluable. Additionally, faculty feedback was overwhelmingly supportive.”
As provost, Dr. Maldonado will oversee a staff of more than 130 full-time and adjunct instructors, and be responsible for the College’s academic integrity, including reaccreditation matters. She will also lead academic program development and review, faculty development, the hallmark Field Period® program, and other operations within the Division of Academic Affairs.
A veteran educator with more than two decades of administrative, teaching, and research experience in higher education, Dr. Maldonado emphasized her commitment to the collective managerial style she forged during her interim tenure.
“I will continue to lead with a collaborative and consultative approach,” she said. “My goal is to strengthen Academic Affairs while ensuring we achieve positive outcomes for all stakeholders as efficiently as possible in today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape.”
Her top priorities include:
- Enhancing student retention and completion graduation rates at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Collaborating with faculty to strengthen existing academic programs and develop new ones that align with current industry needs.
- Expanding out-of-class academic opportunities to enrich the College community.
Prior to her arrival at Keuka College, Dr. Maldonado served as assistant provost for academic success at Buffalo State College (now Buffalo State University). She holds a Ph.D. in Social & Philosophical Foundations of Education from the University of Buffalo, a master’s degree in Higher Education & Student Affairs from The Ohio State University, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from SUNY Geneseo.
“The search committee was particularly impressed by Dr. Maldonado’s actions and leadership during her interim appointment,” said President Storey. “I wholeheartedly agree with their assessment and am confident that Dr. Maldonado will continue making meaningful contributions to our mission.”
